Members of the delegation:

  3. The services of the Embassy involved in this trip.

Objective of the visit:

  • To develop business with this province of Indonesia (35 million of population, the gate of eastern part of Indonesia; Surabaya being the second biggest city of Indonesia with 6 million of population)
  • To discover the economic potential and the projects of development
  • To understand the process of decentralization
  • To meet with the business community and the Universities in the region as well as former students in France of East Java
  • To affirm the presence of France and to facilitate the request of our interlocutors located in the region
  • To take part in the opening ceremony of the Seminar on Energy of the Technical Institute of Surabaya with the participation of TOTAL as the main speaker.

Our objective:

  • To be useful for the companies
  • To facilitate high quality contacts with the officials at the local administration and the Directors of the companies in the region
  • To provide a particular clarity to certain achievement or project of our companies
  • To give the opportunity of resolving the current situations
  • To reinforce the collective approach of  French presence

 

Information on several important French events:

  • The trip of the Mayor of Surabaya and the Chairman of the regional Assembly to Marseille (12th until 18th of February, 2007). Prospect of a twinning cooperation between Surabaya and Marseille
  • First visit of our Ambassador to the Region
  • Official opening of the branch office of IFCCI in Surabaya, with exposure of French products and expertise  (April 2007)
  • Printemps Français : French cultural events (May 2007)


Her Excellency Ambassador, Mrs. Catherine Boivineau, the Chief of Economic Mission, Mr. Franck Perrault, the Chairman of IFCCI, Mr. Alain-Pierre Mignon, and the French business delegation visited Surabaya on March 4th – 6th 2007.
The purpose of this visit was to enlarge the investment and the trade with the government of Surabaya particularly. The visit took place in the Palace Grahadi with the Governor of Surabaya, the Major of Surabaya’s Office and the East-Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Governor of Surabaya is presented by Mr. Joni Irianto as the head of Corporation Division explained the chances of investment in 5 long term projects in East Java, such as :

  1. Suramadu bridge building
  2. Agribusiness central market
  3. Southern crossroads building
  4. High way building
  5. Action program to solve fuel raising and poverty

Furthermore, Mr. Joni Irianto stated 7 priorities in East Java development. Those are :

  • Religious sector
  • Education and health
  • Poverty, employment, labor and entrepreneurship sector
  • Infrastructure development
  • Reservations of surroundings
  • Law supremacy and human rights
  • Public service
